Norfolk Timber Frames Ltd are a company that specialises in bespoke timber frame structures and buildings.

There are two different types of timber framing. The first is stick build which is a treated softwood superstructure that is nailed, bolted and glued together and gets covered up internally normally with plasterboard and is either rendered or timber clad or have a brick skin externally.

The second is post & beam construction that is normally oak or Douglas Fir that is traditionally jointed and pegged together and is mainly left exposed internally. This method is the Rolls Royce of Timber Framing and is beautiful and very strong. It is the most labour intensive and expensive of the two.

Stick build construction being the quickest and cheapest method, when finished you would never know it is timber framed except for the fact that timber frames have a much warmer feel to them than traditional brick and block construction because of the way they retain heat.

It is possible to combine stick build and post and beam construction to keep costs down but still have some lovely feature structural wood exposed.
